The weather is starting to turn, and with the changing weather comes the impending growth spurt from your lawns. The first rains have struck and already the grass is looking greener. So what better time is there to look at your lawn care regime going forward?
The big question that many people don’t ask is: To catch, or not to catch?
Well many people think differently on this point. Honestly, if you have the right gear, and you don’t wait too long between cuts, why would you catch the grass?
Mulch cutting your lawn can not only look good, but also provides mulch to your lawn through the source of leaves as well as the cut grass. If the mower has an adequate motor in it, the mulch produced will be nigh on impossible to see as well. This all goes towards a healthier, stronger lawn when it comes to the non-growing seasons.
“But leaving lawn trimmings over a fresh cut lawn looks unfinished” I’ve been told previously. Again I go to the equipment that you are using. If you don’t have good equipment catching is the only way you will make your lawn look good. I would also catch the grass if it is damp or sodden. The reasoning here is that the mulch can tend to clump together leaving sizable mounds of cut grass instead of dispersing the trimmings over the ground evenly.
So in summary, if your lawns are short enough, your equipment good enough and the weather is nice, lose the catcher and start mulching. You will not only save your back, but your time and maybe even your lawn as well.
